WHO THE F*CK?

Veronica "Vern" Avola, also known as Trigger Object, was born in Italy, raised in the Bay Area, and is currently based in Portland, Oregon. Rooted in a deep sense of community and collaboration, Avola’s creative work is a unique blend of stream-of-consciousness, shaped by an ever-evolving mix of environments, friendships, and forces both known and unknown. Their sound often emerges from a place of deep intuition, drawing on the energy of their surroundings, the people they connect with, and a raw, unpredictable flow of ideas. It’s a combination of conscious thought, subconscious influences, and external triggers—whether it’s a fleeting conversation, a moment in nature, or an encounter with an unexpected sound.

This dynamic approach to creativity has led to an artistic practice that is constantly shifting and open to change. Avola’s work is not just about what is seen or heard—it’s about tapping into the unseen currents that flow beneath the surface of everyday life, and using those energies to create something new. Whether it's through the collective spirit of collaboration, the influence of the environment, or the mysterious forces of chance and coincidence, Avola's compositions are a reflection of the interconnectedness of life and art.

As the founder of EMS Records, Avola has created a space for their own unconventional sounds, often shared through limited-run cassettes and CDs. The label is a reflection of their dedication to fostering a community of like-minded artists, while their music can also be found on respected labels like Sige Recordings and An Out Recordings.

Avola has worked with a wide range of artists over the years, collaborating with many musicians and creators across different projects and genres. They are a member of the Australian band DEAD and works with Daniel Menche (as Bear Spray), Ian Gorman Weiland (as Elrond), Vo Vo (An Out Recordings), and Erika Anderson (EMA). Avola was a founding member of the noise rock band Prizehog (2006-2015) and a long-time member of Shrew Florist (2005-2012).

Avola’s live performances are an expression of their passion for community and connection. Each show is an opportunity to bring people together, creating spaces where audiences can engage with the music and each other in a meaningful way. Through residencies at Pioneer Works and involvement with Residency Earth, Avola continues to explore new ways to push creative boundaries and foster environments where collaboration and experimentation can thrive. Described as "wonderfully crunchy and kinetic" with a "delirious, Amanita Muscaria-soaked sense of dynamics," Avola’s music bridges the gap between the experimental and the accessible, inviting listeners into a world of sound that feels both strange and familiar.

Beyond music, Avola brings this same sense of fun and community to the airwaves. As a radio host on Repeater Radio in the UK, they share a range of eclectic tunes, creating an atmosphere that is both welcoming and adventurous. Off the air, Avola keeps the spirit of connection alive with Road Hog Bitch Karaoke, a bi-weekly event they host in Portland that brings together friends, strangers, and everyone in between for a night of shared joy and performance.

Through music and collaboration, Avola's work celebrates friendship, community, and the power of creative expression.
